RBS: Creating connections in the community

The challenge

The Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) social finance charity, Social and Community Capital (S&CC) supports community businesses that find it difficult to secure mainstream finance.

Very few RBS employees knew about the unit or what it did so S&CC commissioned a series of videos to raise awareness about its work from the perspective of the organisations it supports to be used internally and externally by S&CC website and by the organisations being filmed.

Our solution

Get Cycling is a not-for-profit community interest company that promotes cycling for leisure, transport, health, happiness and the environment – thanks to a loan from S&CC.

We moved the focus away from the business aspect of a bank lending money to show how everyday people benefit from the bank’s partnerships.

We filmed Get Cycling’s visit to a school and a home for the elderly where they encouraged people to have a go at riding the bikes. “They were really having fun and enjoying trying out the bikes, and singing songs, especially the elderly people,” says film director Richard Smith. “It seemed the clock had turned back by 40 years.”

The value

The film was used across a range of external and social channels  which demonstrated impact and it was presented internally at RBS.
