Communication-first approach to Microsoft 365 training for the IoIC

tweet me! share me! share with a colleague!

The challenge

Although there’s plenty of Microsoft 365 training available, most of it is technically-focused and assumes that delegates have a decent knowledge of the suite before they start.

That makes life tough for internal communicators. As one client said to us recently: “When you’re trying to make decisions about how to implement 365, it’s really difficult when ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’.”

Seeing a gap in the market, Sequel created an insight-led, communication-first approach to 365 training.

As part of our long-term relationship with the Institute of Internal Communications (IoIC), we put together an online training course to help tackle the demand from IoIC members for practical, comms-focused Microsoft 365 training.

Our solution

While every company’s approach to deploying 365 is different, we’ve developed a robust set of common principles that any organisation can use to match the tools to its own unique requirements.

Building on this experience, we created a four-part course that helps delegates to think Insight before Technology.

Some of the topics covered in the course include:

  • Looking at ‘the art of the possible’ – understanding the different 365 tools and considering how they can help you as an individual, as a comms team, and as a business
  • Creating a channel map to provide clarity around which tool to use for which task
  • Building a stakeholder map, to help you build your ‘dream team’
  • Giving delegates the tools to have more productive conversations with their IT colleagues
  • Starting a governance plan, to maintain quality in the long term
  • Planning your communications and training campaign, including a walk–through of one of our campaign playbooks.

By spreading the four sessions across two weeks, delegates can use the time between sessions to digest the content, speak to colleagues and complete some light homework.

The impact

Attendees have given the course a 92% satisfaction rating, with delegates including IC, HR and Change Communication teams from a wide range of industries.

Comments included:

  • “The course gives you practical tools and lots of opportunity to ask questions, with just the right amount of tech info to help you have informed conversations with your IT colleagues”
  • “It was great that the presenters called out lots of practical examples of what can go wrong / work well”
  • “These sessions are great – so worthwhile”
  • “I’m a little bit sad that this superb course has come to an end. I learned loads. Grew quite fond of the Sequel lads too.”
