New look website for the London Titans

The London Titans Wheelchair Basketball Club now has a modern, functional website thanks to a pro bono partnership with Sequel Group.

The partnership was formed as a result of Creative Consultant, Lisa Blythman-Wood’s volunteer work at the London and Rio Paralympics. The website redesign was led and executed by our very own Head of Digital Design, Nigel Wood and the Digital Development team, following some design consultation and an initial proposal by Lisa. Together, they lent their UX, creative design and technical expertise to develop a robust, scalable and easy-to use platform that successfully sets the London Titans apart.

The club, based in London, is the largest and most successful Southern England wheelchair basketball club. Players Louise Sugden and Ian Laker wanted this to be reflected in a new website that would enhance their online presence and replace their tired, outdated website.

“It was very much just a standard WordPress blog before, with that basic blogroll look. It was completely out of date – the most recent fixtures list was for 2015, as was much of the news, and video was non-functioning. On top of that, the tweets weren’t loading,” Nigel says.

Following a proposal and initial meeting where the requirements for the website were outlined, Nigel created a site mock-up, designed to be a single, scrolling page and fully responsive. “We all agreed that the logo was already bright, colourful and successful so it was about incorporating that into a more contemporary layout. We created one design and they loved it,” Nigel explains.

Sequel developers built the site from the ground up in WordPress. The fixtures section was completely reworked to provide match day details about which teams are playing, when and where, while making it easy to update in the CMS backend. In addition, the Titans social media feeds were integrated into the website, replacing the outdate news section, and allowing for a ‘create once, publish everywhere’ approach.  All of this works together to ensure Titans supporters have the most up-to-date information available to them across all channels.

The resulting website is cleaner, bolder, with a modern and responsive user experience, which is easier for Titans to update and manage. “It looks great, much better than what we had before, and we’ve received lots of really positive feedback,” Louise says of the new site.

“Lisa and Nigel and the Sequel team were great to work with – they were open to our ideas rather than just pushing their own. They’ve also been helping us with our social media side of things to make sure we’re creating better content for all our channels, which have been getting a lot of praise and exposure. I can’t recommend them highly enough.”
