This is Pinteresting – Heightening leadership visibility to engage employees

We like it because… Pinterest is new and exciting

Pin the tail on the donkeyOne of the biggest challenges internal communicators face is how to keep leaders visible in fresh and meaningful ways. Time constraints coupled with the physical constraints of multiple – and often global – locations can present daunting barriers to regular communication between leaders and employees. Fortunately, the emergence of social media – like Pinterest (surprise!) – can help heighten their visibility and engagement.

Rarely have we seen an outlet that lends itself to engagement like we do with Pinterest. In addition to creating their own pinboards and pinning their own content, leaders and employees can interact with each other by ‘liking,’ repinning and commenting on each other’s pins. Leaders also can use Pinterest to suggest business articles, share how-to guides or pin inspirational stories and quotes to keep their workforce informed and motivated.

In addition, using a new (2012) browser add-on, pinaquote.com, users can now highlight text on any website and automatically create an image for sharing. For business leaders, this could be handy for pinning quotes, statistics or any other insights they come across online.
