Line manager communications training delivers practical skills

Founded in 1851, Louis Dreyfus Company is a leading merchant and processor of agricultural goods.

During a period of significant organisational change, the organisation wanted to arm its line managers with the communications skills they needed to translate global messages and make them meaningful at a local level.

Building on a close working relationship developed over four years, the IC and Human Resources teams selected Sequel Group to create and run a pilot training programme for around 100 global managers.

Our solution

Using our experience of running similar programmes for other organisations, we developed a two-hour online workshop that highlighted the importance of internal communication; discussed the vital role of line managers as communicators; and shared practical learning and tips on how to tackle common scenarios.

From the first steps in planning a message and considering channels, to using advanced storytelling techniques, we shared a mix of best practice and our own experiences as line managers. This helped delegates build up a personal toolbox of comms skills and techniques.

And respecting different learning styles, we used a mix of formats to share the content and involve attendees.

We ran the two-hour workshop across four time zones, supported by practical guides and a complementary toolkit.

The impact

Managers were keen to learn, keen to improve, and just as keen to start putting what they had learned into practice straight away.

One attendee said: “This was a stunning training session – thank you! The two hours felt like five minutes, so time well spent.”

Our training programme received an overall satisfaction score of 8.8 / 10 from attendees; with a rating of 9.3 / 10 for our two trainers.
