Internal comms and cyber security: keeping employees informed and your information safe

With 60% of people in employment before Covid-19 now working at home, keeping employees informed, and our information safe, has never been more important. It is time to raise cyber security awareness across organisations like never before.

Security is not just about the systems, it’s about the human element too. IT might be the team of people responsible for the tech infrastructure, but protecting your information effectively needs everyone on board.

The proportion of cyber attacks targeting home workers increased from 12% of malicious email traffic before the UK’s lockdown began in March, to more than 60% six weeks later1.

A Guardian report described how “one spoofing attack featured an unnamed company chief executive supposedly asking workers to donate to his health charity, while others mimic IT support departments asking workers to download new software.”

We’re working with internal communicators to help them tackle cyber security concerns in their organisations and raise awareness of the crucial role that employees play in keeping their organisations safe.

Join our session to learn more about the ways in which internal comms and IT professionals can work together to keep your people connected in a safe way.

We’ll start with a LIVE demo, delivered by an ethical hacker, to demonstrate how easy it is for malicious hackers to create false accounts and phishing emails.

We’ll feature a corporate cyber security case study, with plenty of time for questions too.

Speakers

Our first speaker is John Fenoughty, Director of information security firm Lithify. Lithify are specialists in implementing complex security solutions with a people-centric mindset. John will be talking about the importance of people and comms, highlighting that no matter how good the tech is people should always be at the heart of a strategy.

John Fenoughty – Director at Lithify

Information security, part of which is cyber security, is about people as much as it is about the tech. When it comes to breaching an organisation’s IT systems, malicious hacking activities act through the tech, but think like people; employees who do their jobs to the best of their knowledge.

Our second speaker is Corinne Linskell, Head of Digital and Cyber Security Awareness at Dixons Carphone. Corinne has over 20 years of internal and external communications experience, covering a range of areas including Corporate Comms; Internal Comms; Media Relations; Community Relations; ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Comms; Business Engagement and Cyber Security Comms.

Corinne Linskell – Head of Digital and Cyber Security Awareness at Dixons Carphone

She joined Dixons Carphone in October 2019 as Head of Digital and Cyber Security Awareness to raise the level of awareness around cyber security risks and embed good security behaviours throughout the organisation for over 40, 000 colleagues across the UK, Ireland, the Nordics and Greece.

Having begun working in PR for a Regional Health Authority in the NHS, Corinne has spent most of her career at the global pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. This included joining the Information Security team as Communications Manager with a global remit of over 100,000 colleagues.

Cyber security awareness has become a passion for Corinne, ensuring people understand its importance in both their professional and private lives.
