New emojis in the pipeline

Do you feel the need for a new emoji – those cute graphics used in mobile phone messages and on websites?

Apparently 38 emoji characters are being considered for the 2016 Unicode update, joining more than 1,300 emojis already available.

According to simplycommunicate.com we can expect the new emojis next year and candidates include a pregnant woman, crossed fingers, Mother Christmas and a dancing man – try getting all of those into one message! More useful might be an expressive shrug – the visual equivalent of ‘meh’ or ‘I dunno’.

Others on the list are a croissant, a duck and a wilting flower. The new designs are being considered by the Unicode 9 consortium, which will decide which emojis make the final cut. We’re rooting for the black bat and what appear to be two flying rashers of streaky bacon!
